| Your Shirlington Connection is aimed at bringing the community together. In today's fast-paced world, it's a sad fact that people no longer connect with one another like they used to. While I can't go out and introduce myself to every single resident of Shirlington, I can start to help people meet each other through the magazine and website. I will do this by letting Shirlington residents know about all of the amazing opportunities, events, and resources that are occurring each month in our area. Events will include large scale Shirlington events, visiting performing artists, movie nights, classes, and much more. In addition, I want to show Shirlington residents all of the great options that they have all around them for anything they might need. I don't want people to spend money that they don't have, but if they are going to go spend money, I'd like to see them do it to support the community that we live in. Because without all of these great stores and restaurants here in Shirlington, chances are that many of us wouldn't be living here! I also want to give the community a voice. Too often decisions are made all around us and we wish we could have had a say in the matter, especially when it comes to the community we live in. This is where Your Shirlington Connection comes in. If you have an idea, suggestion, or concern, please let us know and we'll do our best to air the situation. Monthly surveys are meant as a means to not only gather all of your ideas but then to be able to give them collectively to the right people. As part of our community, we can't forget those that are in need. Each month we will try to profile at least one non-profit organization to help raise awareness about their mission as well as conduct a Fundraiser for them.
